Fernie Riverfest Overview
The Fernie River Society will be hosting the 7th annual Fernie Riverfest this summer for 2007. This event will be another fun weekend of river running, play boating, rafting, canoeing and kayaking, drift boating, good food, music, dancing and fine Fernie hospitality.
The festival begins on Friday with the Downriver race, a fun competition between the Fernie bridges for three classes: kayaks and canoes, rafts, and drift boats. The Downriver race will be followed by awards, drinks and dinner at the Grand Central Hotel. Everyone is invited to enjoy the fun and see the latest kayak movies on a giant screen.
Saturday and Sunday will primarily consist of organized river-runs on local rivers including; the Elk River, Bull River, and Wigwam Shuttles will be organized by group leaders and driven by volunteers. On Saturday night, there will be a Summer Solstice Pig Roast and BBQ at the Elk River campgrounds located at the Elk River and Hwy #93, with dinner followed by music and further celebrating.
Non-paddling spouses, siblings and friends will enjoy the great abundance of activities to participate in, not to mention awesome restaurants. Rafting and other outdoor activities will be abundant.
